Once again I’ve started the C25K running program. I’m not really sure why I’ve started it. Part of it is because I want to work in more cardio into my fitness routine and at least the program provides me with some structure as well as a measurable outcome. I would love to be able to run, but to be honest I don’t particularly enjoy it …
I guess this is not the most positive mindset to have when I’m starting off a program. At the very least, I’d like to see it through until the end. Several years ago I started it and got through Week 7 or the 8 week program. I’m so disappointed that I didn’t finish the whole thing … I guess this is all about redemption.
It has taken me almost 3 weeks to finish Week 1! Finding a way to balance running with weight lifting, jiu-jitsu, and hot yoga has not been easy. I haven’t had the time or energy to do it all, so some things have had to be cut and running was the one that got cut the most.
I’m glad I got through Week 1. Hopefully it won’t take me as long to finish Week 2.
The whole of Week 1 involved a total workout of 30 minutes: 5 minutes warm-up walking, and then intervals of 1 minute running (jogging) and 1 1/2 minutes walking, finally ending with a 5 minute cool down.
I’m not doing this at a fast pace at all. I’m just focusing on getting it done vs. racing through it. I increased the speed each time I did a day. I didn’t find jogging for a minute difficult though I did find myself glancing at the clock at around the 40 second mark.
My goal is to get to a point where I’m not thinking about the time and I am able to just jog until the prompt tells me to walk.
Week 1 done — hopefully Week 2 won’t take me as long to complete!!
